Its been said prosperity forges friendships and adversity tests them. Likewise, tough financial times test credit union executives mettle. Tim McCoy, business development manager for Texans Credit Union, Richardson, Texas, has shown he has the wherewithal not only to withstand tough times, but to succeed despite them. Thats one trait that earned him 2003 Business Development Professional of the Year honors from the CUNA Marketing Council. Overall, it was the quality and breadth of Tims business development efforts that made him stand out, notes Kristine Kowalski of Kane County Teachers Credit Union in Elgin, Ill., the lead judge in this category. and other industries in this area were hit hard by the last economic downturn.
Weve seen a lot of layoffs. Companies are battening down the hatches and
trying to ride out the storm. That makes it extremely difficult to find prospective
select employee groups [SEGs]. But even though we had some budget cuts and had to reduce our participation in a number of things, he continues, we still were able to accomplish all of our major objectives. Those included meeting our return on assets goal, staying in budget, promoting Texans Credit Union, and participating in company events, open enrollments, bene.ts fairs, and those types of things.
