Member Spotlight: Greg Stone

Greg Stone (aka Stoney) is originally from the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, where he was born and raised. After attending Lyndon State College, he moved to the capital city area and pursued marketing and business development positions that featured a creative focus.

From his position with an international book publishing company, Greg began employment with the Vermont State Employees Credit Union (VSECU). The fit was perfect! Greg has been one of the longest-employed marketing coordinators in the credit union's history.

"I realized that the credit union is where I want to be," says Greg. "I enjoy working for a cooperative financial alternative and promoting its great products and services to make our members' lives better!"

Greg feels that statement is the key to his success at the VSECU. He enjoys what he does and has seen the difference that his contributions have made in the membership he represents.

Biggest challenge

We are finding it very challenging to be cost effective when it comes to purchases. Whether it's printing, promotional items, or something else, vendors all say their pricing has increased due to the rising cost of gasoline causing increased costs in shipments.

Best advice

If you enjoy what you do, you will find it easier to influence coworkers to align themselves with you and your line of thinking.

Greatest benefit of Council membership

Excellent contacts! E-mail me at gstone@vsecu.com.

I appreciate my affiliation with a group of individuals dedicated to the same cause. I have had the privilege of meeting/corresponding with several people who are willing to share their expertise and provide feedback on my ideas.

Best part of my job

I find great satisfaction in designing printed collateral and also providing creative input on campaigns.

Hardest part of my job

Other departments don't really know everything that we do. Sometimes it feels like they think we just sit at our desks and ponder what color to use on the next statement insert.

Success story

I worked diligently with a few individuals to develop our new logo. The effort paid off. We now have a great logo and even won a CUNA Diamond Award!

Hobbies and interests

Spending time with my wife and our dog and two cats, remodeling our home, hiking and vacationing in Maine.

People would be most surprised to learn that . . .

I live in Vermont and don't own a cow or ski during the winter. I worked for a chamber of commerce and visitors were shocked when they called and asked me about cows and skiing.

Recent book

The Secrets Behind the Da Vinci Code (I can't be left out of a secret!).

Life goal yet accomplished

I would like to start my own business ... and be successful with it!

Something that always makes me laugh

TV: South Park, Absolutely Fabulous, Benny Hill (sorry!)

If I had an extra hour in the day . . .

I would try to relax!
