Member Spotlight: Jerry Manor

Jerry Manor is director of marketing for SeaComm Federal Credit Union in Massena, New York. He was born in Plattsburgh and has lived his entire life in New York 's Canadian border region.

“My first career was in radio, and I've worked at many different stations in the area, doing just about everything you can do in the radio biz,” says Jerry. During the winter months he still moonlights as a hockey play-by-play announcer.

Jerry joined the credit union movement five years ago and “really loves it.” He lives in the country with his wife, who is a school nurse in a junior high school. They have two grown daughters and a grandson.

Biggest challenge for 2007

Loan growth—we're in the black, but not as much as we'd like to be.

Remember you are communicating with real people.

Greatest benefit of Council membership

Networking—credit union marketers are full of great ideas.

Best part of my job

Helping members—getting them to take advantage of all the things the credit union can do to better their financial lives.

Hardest part of my job

Trying to get everything done in the time I have.

Recent success story

A three-month Visa balance transfer promo earlier this year. Our goal was $500,000 in transfers from other cards. We blew by that in the first month and ended up hitting 175% of the goal.

Hobbies and interests

Hockey, both broadcasting and watching. We have two Division-1 college teams in our area, and of course the Montreal Canadiens and Ottawa Senators. I also take an annual week-long canoe camping trip into the Adirondack wilderness, ride my four-wheeler, and enjoy spending time with my family.

People would be surprised to learn that . . .
