Member Spotlight: Lynn Blizzard

Lynn Blizzard is marketing manager for SAFE Federal Credit Union in Sumter, South Carolina. She graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in advertising with concentration in graphics.

Lynn first worked in the printing, retail, and financial industries before joining SAFE. Born and raised in Lugoff, South Carolina, she and her 12-year-old son still live there on family property that her great-grandparents owned.

Biggest challenge

Our credit union is not a community credit union and lots of layoffs are occurring in our areas of membership. We just want to continue to grow and develop in the areas we serve.

Best advice

Keep the mentality of a sponge and soak in all the information you can through the journey of life. You will continue to learn new tricks.

Greatest benefit of Council membership

The networking and the shared experiences.

Best part of my job

The relationships I have built through buying media and creating advertising pieces for the credit union.

Hardest part of my job

Staying on top of industry trends while satisfying our 100,000 members and management.

Success story

Our credit union had the best year ever in 2008. We returned more than $4 million in bonus dividends to our members. We advertised this during January 2009. No other financial institution was advertising at the time and we got lots of coverage.

Biggest misconception about my job

That marketing is the "FUN" department. We do have fun, but we do a lot of work and when most employees are volunteering for an event, we are actually there to work and keep it organized.

Hobbies and interests

I enjoy shopping, fishing, and spending time with my family and my fiancée Curt. We live in the country and enjoy the outdoors.

Life goal not yet accomplished

I'd like to be a vice president of marketing.

If I had an extra hour in the day . . .

I would spend it with my son. I have worked since the day he was born. Every minute counts in my eyes.

If I could spend a day with anyone it would be . . .

My grandmother. I grew up next to her. I would love to tell her about everything I have done as an adult.

How I would explain the credit union difference to a potential new member

At SAFE Federal Credit Union your membership matters and with our products and services you can rest assured that we take care of your financial needs without the overhead or fees banks charge to make a profit.
