Member Spotlight: Anne Legg

Anne LeggAnne Legg is vice president of marketing for Financial Partners Credit Union in Downey, California. Born and raised in Minneapolis, Anne earned a degree in journalism and communication studies at the University of Iowa before moving to San Diego. She first experienced the credit union industry working for an advertising agency that specialized in credit union marketing. She eventually left to become director of marketing for San Diego Medical Credit Union. Anne also spent 13 years at Cabrillo Credit Union before joining Financial Partners Credit Union as vice president of marketing in March 2012.

"In addition to my credit union work, I recently finished an eight-year term on the CUNA Marketing and Business Development Executive Council, eventually serving as vice chair and chair for five years," she says. "I also served on the board of the Marketing Association of Credit Unions and served as a member of the California and Nevada Credit Union League Public Advocacy Committee that was tasked for raising awareness of credit unions in the two states it serves."

As if all this doesn't keep her busy enough, Anne also teaches at the CUNA Marketing School on the subjects of branding and innovation. She has also served as the subject matter expert for CUNA's credit union marketing curriculum and helped design a certification program for credit union marketing professionals in conjunction with the CUNA Center for Professional Development.

Biggest challenge


Achieving organic loan growth from an aging membership that has decreasing loan demand.

Best advice

Stay curious! Keep on asking questions, wondering why, and learning new things.

Best part of my job

Watching the positive impact that banking at a credit union has on members' lives. I love how we wear the white hat!

Hardest part of my job

Not having enough time or resources to achieve everything I would like to do.

Credit union success story

Creating the Virtual Auto Dealership at Cabrillo Credit Union. We launched the first phase of a virtual auto dealership that increased loans and created a closed consumer purchase experience while using low-cost virtual space (the Internet).

Biggest misconception about my job

That all we do is make flyers with pictures and host good parties (i.e., golf tournaments).

Hobbies and interests

Storyteller at local library (I have read to over 3,000 kids) hiking (climbed Mt. Whitney), black-and-white photography.

The First 90 Days by Michael Watkins.

Life goal not yet achieved

Fencing and/or learning to dance the tango (just not together!).
