Warm up in Miami! Don’t forget to register [link to conference page http://www.cunamarketingcouncil.org/conference_04.html] for the 2004 CMBDC Conference, March 10-13 at the Fountainebleau Hilton in Miami Beach, Florida.

Member education: They really DO read this stuff. The more useful the information you provide (topics that offer more than just promote a product) to your members, the more they will come to trust you and read all your stuff. That’s why it’s important that we continue to educate members both directly and through SEGs. Your SEG newsletter editors want good editorial content that’s not “sales-y”, just like your members do. What are your thoughts on member education? What has worked well for you? We’d love to hear from you. Send your thoughts to sbrillow@ehawthorne.org.

You may be promoting your credit card program now, and a great way to do that is to educate members about some of the new tactics that credit card issuers are using to get cardholders. Their tactics include raising rates if your payment is even a few hours late, and shrinking the grace periods. In fact, some credit card issuers actually start charging finance charges at the time of purchase, as opposed to the day the purchase posts to the account. See this News Now article for more info. This Month’s Conference Speaker in the Spotlight:

Tim McCoy, Business Development Manager for Texans Credit Union in Richardson, Texas, was CMBDC’s Business Development Professional of the Year in 2003, and is presenting one of the Pre-Conference Workshops this March in Miami Beach. His session is entitled, “Business Development: Building a Program that Makes Cents!”

Tim has worked 18+ years in the credit union industry. He began his career as a teller at Union Square FCU (Wichita Falls, TX.) while pursuing a business degree from Midwestern State University. After earning his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration he worked for EDS Credit Union (Plano, TX.) in various collection, lending and marketing/business development roles for more than 12 years before moving to Texans Credit Union (Richardson, TX.) in June 2001 to lead the business development department. Tim is a 1999 Honors graduate of Southwest CUNA Management School (SCMS) and currently is President of the SCMS Alumni Association and a director of the Dallas Chapter of Credit Unions. While away from work, Tim enjoys spending time with his family and following the busy schedules of his two, very active children.

Tim is presenting on Wednesday, March 10 in a Pre-Conference Workshop session called, “Business Development: Building A Program That Makes Cents!”. In his session you’ll learn how to build or enhance your business development program and discover new ways -- including incentives -- to give your program staying power. You’ll have the chance to see how your current program stacks up, or if it needs a little adjustment to maximize your credit union's bottom line. This session will also provide the opportunity to share successes and failures. You won’t want to miss it!
